Pride Stories: Megan Smith π³οΈβπ
Weβre kicking this month off with some seriously incredible interviews as part of our Pride Stories Campaign. Pride is about celebrating but equally demanding better representation, support, opportunity and equality for our LGBQT+ community in the creative world and further (all year long).
Without further ado, meet the lovely Meg (and her cat, Elton, of course). Meg is a CGC creator from South Wales who joined Vidsy last year. This is her storyβ¦
Hey Meg! Tell us a bit about yourself, and how you got to where you are today.
Hello all! My name is Meg, Iβm 25 and from South Wales. I make CGC videos for Vidsy.
Iβve always been interested in social media, I ran a blog while at uni, then worked in a couple of creative jobs before opening a bakery and running the entire social media marketing side of that business. I left that to start a new business where I manage social media accounts and create content full time.
What is the importance of representation to you in the industry and in the world at large?
Representation is crucial both in the industry and the wider world, as it directly impacts people's perceptions and experiences. In the industry, representation involves portraying the diversity of people in all aspects of production, from casting to storytelling. It provides opportunities for underrepresented groups, challenges stereotypes and fosters empathy and understanding.
If you could send your younger self a message, what would it be?
I would tell my younger self to not care what people think.
What is one of the most joyful things about being part of the LGBQT+ community?
The people you meet.
What are the most urgent changes that need to be made for the world to be safer and more welcoming for LGBQT+ community?
Education, more inclusive learning & fostering understanding and acceptance of the LGBTQ+ community.
