Meet Alan, a gifted Motion Designer from Brazil who creates videos for Vidsy during his free time. We sat down to discuss his flourishing freelance career, suggestions for individuals who wish to enter the creative industry, ways to discover inspiration and tips for maintaining mental wellness as a creative professional.

Hey Alan! Tell us a bit about yourself, and how you got to where you are today.

Hi guys! My name is Alan Soares, and I currently reside in Porto Alegre, a city located in the southern region of Brazil. I highly recommend visiting this lovely city if you ever get the opportunity. I specialise in Motion Design.

I began my career in the creative industry back in 2014 when I studied advertising in college. I worked as an art director in various Brazilian agencies for several years. However, my primary interest has always been in audiovisual and motion design, which I gradually integrated into my work until it became my main profession.

Can you share your experience as a creative professional residing and working in Brazil?

Although Brazil faces challenges due to its high level of inequality, the country is home to a vibrant community of creative individuals. The diverse and breathtaking natural landscapes serve as a constant source of inspiration.

Tell us a bit about your work setup. Where and how do you work best?

I gotta say, I'm a bit of a home bird, so working from my home office is my jam. I'm not really into music, but I love throwing on different podcasts in different languages while I work. Keeps things interesting, you know?

Managing mental wellbeing can be challenging, especially for those with a creative mind. How do you handle the pressure?

When I'm feeling mentally fatigued, I like to get moving and do some exercise. Whether it's going for a walk, hitting the gym, or joining a group workout, it really helps me clear my head and recharge. Plus, it always seems to spark some new ideas for me!

Any advice for people starting out in the creative industry?

If you want to excel in the creative industries, it's crucial to have a genuine passion for it and to continuously work on self-improvement. Aside from learning about tools and theories, it's important to seek inspiration from a wide range of sources, including movies, music, comics, architecture, and poetry.

What inspires you?

Great ideas can come from anywhere - a striking design, a fun game, an inspiring quote, the vibrant colours of a garden, or even a simple chat with pals. The best ideas come when our minds are relaxed.

Finally, if you had the opportunity to send a message to your younger self, what would you say?

Little Alan, the path probably won't be as you planned, but one way or another, you will get where you need to be. The route may not always be clear, but keep moving forward, and you'll get there.
